6 Easy Ways to Get Into the Spirit of Fall

Posted by Sara Chinnock on

My favorite season is finally here! While I love a little tropical vibe, I’m ready for sweater weather, cozy evenings, and all the little things that make fall feel like fall.

But if you’re not quite feeling the fall spirit yet, you’re not alone. After summer temperatures spike, routines shift, and everything in between, life doesn’t magically slow down just because the calendar says “First Day of Fall.” It can take a little effort to make that seasonal switch.

Luckily, I’ve had a list engraved in my head for years to help me get into the fall mood, and it works every time. The best part? You don’t have to leave home or plan anything elaborate. Sometimes, a few simple changes are enough to make your home feel a little more autumn-inspired.

Here are six easy ways to bring those fall vibes home.

1. Give Your Home a Fall Refresh

You don’t need to completely redecorate. Swap out a few summer touches for cozy blankets, warm-toned pillows, seasonal décor, or a simple fall centerpiece. Even moving a few things around can make a room feel different.

2. Fill the House with Fall Scents

Scent has a funny way of making a season feel real. Try simmering cinnamon sticks, apples, and orange slices on the stove, lighting a fall-scented candle, or using a diffuser with warm, seasonal scents. Suddenly, your home feels like fall before you even notice the temperature outside.

3. Create a Cozy Family Dinner

Make an ordinary weeknight feel a little more special. Set out the nicer plates, put on soft music, and make a comforting dinner everyone can enjoy together. It doesn’t have to be complicated. The goal is simply to slow down and enjoy being around the table.

4. Have a Fall-Themed Breakfast

Start a Saturday morning with something that feels a little different. Try cinnamon toast, apple pancakes, pumpkin muffins, or another seasonal favorite. Add warm drinks and let everyone linger at the table a little longer.

5. Send a Fall Gift for Someone

Fall is a great excuse to brighten someone’s day. Think beyond traditional presents and consider experience gifting, giving someone an experience they can enjoy with their favorite people. There’s something special about giving a gift that creates a memory, especially when you end up enjoying it right alongside the person receiving it.

6. Plan a Cozy Night In

You don’t always need a big outing to make family memories. Pick a simple activity everyone will enjoy, make some snacks, and turn an ordinary evening into something worth looking forward to. Curated nights in can be so meaningful for a reason. They create space for connection without all the rushing around.

Fall doesn’t have to arrive all at once. Sometimes, the season starts with a candle, a cozy dinner, a little extra time together, or a tradition that makes everyone smile. Here’s to making the most of those simple moments and enjoying the season together.
